The d-pad then allows you to switch between custom, default, aviator, and southpaw. At the top of the options menu hit the bumper button on a controller to show the controller mapping. Where is the "Aviator" control settings on PC? The "Aviator" control settings swap yaw and roll. Thanks! I couldn't figure out why I was struggling with the controls but this is the exact reason.

I eventually discovered there was in-game remapping options to swap that, but it happened right as I hit the part of the tutorial that teaches you the booster and abruptly my night became an unsuccessful quest to repair my joystick or buy a new one instead of a quick dive into Squadrons. I kept finding it hard to steer because my brain wanted to use the rudder to yaw and the stick to roll, but the game does the opposite of that. I'll work it out.īesides the inverting, one thing that might help stick users is swapping the X and Z axes. There are still some things I don't understand about VR settings/refresh rate etc., I can go to higher refresh rates on the HMD, but then FPSvr reports LOWER average FPS, which makes no sense to me. I'm going to spend some more time tweaking it up today. Performance is pretty good I've been running VR High with a few things turned down (AO, etc.) I think, and getting a mostly locked 80FPS in the Index with a 2080Ti overclocked. There are some janky skyboxes and textures occasionally.but I've really not noticed them zooming around in VR most of the time.

I don't seem to be having the deadzone issues some are, but that could be my very old HOTAS software (Cougar Control Panel) saving my butt (or I'm just not noticing it for some reason). There are quite a few things to get bound onto the HOTAS and I'm still struggling with them a bit. As well as tweaking graphics settings and working on binds. I spent 4+ hours under the headset last night flying the 1st few missions of the campaign and some 5v5 dogfights. It certainly has some issues, but my God, it got made. This game is my childhood dreams come true. It's not one of the triggers, it's assigned to the left analog stick.Īgreed though that it looks beautiful in action, which doesn't come across in still screencaps. The throttle's just different, that's all. Feels a lot like Everspace and Galaxy on Fire, both of which are perfectly playable with a gamepad. I honestly tried to like Elite but I just couldn't get into it), you don't need a joystick.

If you are not a hardcore space sim fan (I'm not. Otherwise, gamepad controls feel just fine. This makes certain parts of the campaign stop dead in its tracks because very early on there are a few points where you have to target an object for the story to progress.Īnd even for a arcade space "sim", I was surprised to see that Y-axis is not inverted by default for gamepads. One showstopping bug I'm finding is that tap LT to target rarely works.

I think in future, I'll just wait for a Steam Sale because it's not worth paying full price if right at launch means such shitty quality. I wasn't even terribly hyped up about the game, I just liked the low price so it was kind of an impulse.

The last PC game I bought on launch day was probably Sim City 3000, so I'm incredibly depressed about where the video game industry has gone. I probably won't pick it up again until a few patches roll out. This is just a bad, bad game if you are a PC gamer. I'm able to max out on Ultra at 4K with no issues, but it defaulted to Medium at 1080p. The game launched at a really messed up resolution and very low default graphics settings for my graphics card, and I wasn't able to change it until I skipped a bunch of cut scenes and started actual game play. Really annoyed by PC games that are just straight zero effort ports of console games, so don't even have basic PC-centric features like the ability to change graphics settings without actually playing the game and then exiting out to the menu. It really feels like the campaign is just there as a tutorial to get you into the PvP.ĭefinitely seems that way because you drop straight into it before you are presented any menu to start playing online.
